When we were first given this assignment of finding materials about Digital Wellness, the first thing that jumped into my mind was one of my all time favorite life changing books; Hands Free Mama, A guide to putting down the phone, burning the to-do list, and letting go of perfection to grasp what really matters! by Rachel Macy Stafford.
In Ms. Stafford’s book she talks about how she had this awaking with how much of her time was spent digitally and comparing herself to others/ keeping up with the Jone’s and what she did to combat it. What started out as a blogging journey turned into a book. In her book she has twelve chapters that outline how to work on your our digital wellness. Some of the chapters include: Awareness, Deliberateness, Presentness, Simplification, and Forgiveness.
In her book and blog she talks a lot about not having such an intense daily immersion into social media, and how if you do go on do it with a time limit and a purpose. Don’t fall into the rabbit hole of comparison, it’s not healthy for your mental health. She wants you to have a purpose of inspiration if you are online and showing the true you, not an digital fake.
I feel this book is a great resource for parents no matter how old their children are. It is really eye opening with many different examples/ true stories from other parents about how this changed their mind set when it came to what they were doing online, and how they were spending their time.
